Michelle Aguirre - Oral Re: Thanked everyone involved in bringing the OC Cares Master Plan for Aging to the Board (Agenda Item S35H) including staff from Board offices, OC Community Resources, Health Care Agency and Social Services Agency, and the Older Adults Advisory Commission Chair Crystal Miles for their contributions to development of the Master Plan for Aging

 

BOARD COMMENTS:

 

Supervisor Nguyen - Oral Re: Thanked Chair Chaffee and Supervisor Sarmiento for attending Cultural Heritage Festival at Mile Square Park attended by over 25,000 people, thanked volunteers, OC Parks, CEO Procurement and Sheriff Department staff for their assistance, and the Fountain Valley City Council and elected officials from various cities; directed CEO to review procurement policies and procedures for best practices

 

Supervisor Sarmiento - Oral Re: Directed CEO to work with departments and Board offices to develop and implement standardized maximum not to exceed thresholds for on-call and job-order contracts including standardized thresholds for task orders requiring Board approval, and look at benchmarking these thresholds against other similarly-situated jurisdictions

 

Supervisor Foley - Oral Re: Announced new safety measures in progress for Las Flores Elementary School for the crosswalk at intersection of Meandering Trail and Grassy Knoll; attended townhall hosted by Congressman Mike Levin and discussed impacts of HR1 to Medicaid eligibility and cuts to services; directed Health Care Agency to get the word out that enrollment is no longer automatic and individuals will need to participate annually during open enrollment to retain eligibility; announced Annual Senior Summit to be held October 10th at Aliso Viejo Ranch; recognized today as Women's Equality Day

 

Supervisor Wagner - Oral Re: Thanked Kevin Onuma and OC Public Works staff who met with him regarding on-call and job order contracts and suggested reviewing language in the Contract Policy Manual related to these contract types

 

Chair Chaffee - Oral Re: Announced the birth of his third grandchild born on his 50th wedding anniversary; announced new Committee Health Ambassador Program in conjunction with Cal State Fullerton Master Public Health Program to look at gaps in healthcare; invited everyone to attend Fourth District's Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 30 at Tri-City Park in Placentia, fishing rod, reel and bait will be provided and Orange County Employees Association will provide free hot dog lunch

Jim Farell - Oral Re: Orange County Conservator Assistance Group provides services to conservators navigating the system; concerns with lawsuits and litigation making it difficult for law enforcement to intervene and assist individuals in crisis and 5150 holds for fear of lawsuits; requested the Board reach out to 25 different law enforcement agencies in Orange County and the Orange County Behavioral Health Board to develop solutions to address the issues

 

Steve Rocco - Oral Re: Cardboard signs used by homeless and the Santiago Creek homeless are his neighbors; Orange County is the capital of the homeless, City of Santa Ana is the second largest Mexican city in the world and has the second largest concentration of Vietnamese in the world; witnessing the genocide of Americans while government gives aid and support to those who are not Americans
