Michelle Aguirre - Oral Re: Announced August kick-off of the 2025 Strategic Financial Plan process and will issue press release inviting public input; thanked Roger Kaszynski of OC Information Technology (OCIT) for conducting audit of AT&T circuits which resulted in $500,000 cost savings to the County

 

BOARD COMMENTS:

 

Chair Chaffee - Oral Re: Announced his 50th wedding anniversary and upcoming arrival of grandchild; requested staff to research 201 rights for cities who missed the deadline

 

Vice Chair Foley - Oral Re: Invited everyone to attend the Wellness Walk at Balboa Island on August 19, 6:00 pm; announced 18th Annual Senior Summit in partnership with CalOptima Health to be held on October 10th from 9am - 1pm; thanked OC Public Works and OC Parks staff for assistance provided at townhall event held at Laguna Niguel Regional Park and Lake on August 9th

 

Supervisor Nguyen - Oral Re: Thanked Board, County Executive Office, OC Public Works and OC Parks staff for approval of the seven-year plan that was approved last month; invited everyone to attend Cultural Heritage Festival, Freedom Hall at Mile Square Park, August 15-17

 

Supervisor Sarmiento - Oral Re: Thanked OC Parks for assistance with Luis C. Garza exhibit on display at the Old Orange County Courthouse; thanked Bob Page, Registrar of Voters for preparing for a proposed Special California Redistricting Election by the legislature even though election has yet to be called; expressed disappointment with court ordering restitution amount for former Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do which is not proportional to the harm he caused; concerned about impacts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) activities in the community and noted decrease in OCTA ridership and increase in absenteeism at schools and workplaces; requested the County Executive Office staff conduct a year over year objective comparison of tax revenues and costs and report findings to the Board at the September 9th Board meeting, if possible, and to advise Board if more time is needed; requested the County join County of Los Angeles and several Orange County cities to intervene in the pending Pedro Vasquez lawsuit against Kristi Noem regarding federal government conducting immigration enforcement in violation of the constitution and due process rights or submit a brief in support of relief; however, request was not granted; will continue to support immigrant community, friends and neighbors and protect due process and constitutional rights.

 

Supervisor Wagner - Oral Re: Addressed the calling of a proposed Special California Redistricting Election by the legislature; voiced opposition of the Registrar preparing for an election that has yet to be called and spending money on an election that may not be reimbursed; County should not spend public funds until promised repayment by the State of California; County would not be violating laws by not spending money or not preparing for an election that has not yet been called and will not satisfy existing statutory deadlines; ex post facto Constitutional violation
