Board of Supervisors' jurisdiction, the person(s) having the majority of
votes for that office, pursuant to California Elections Code section 15400. |
SUMMARY:
Declaring elected to each office
the candidates with the majority or highest number of votes and receiving the
certified Statement of Votes Cast for the Presidential General Election held on
November 5, 2024, will implement the results of the election and ensure
compliance with Elections Code Sections 15372 and 15400.
BACKGROUND
INFORMATION:
Pursuant to Elections Code Section 15372,
the Registrar of Voters must submit a certified statement of the results of the
election to the governing body with jurisdiction over each office up for
election within 30 days of the election.
Pursuant to Elections Code Section 15400,
the Board of Supervisors must declare elected or nominated the candidates under
its jurisdiction.
For the November 5, 2024, Presidential
General Election, the office under the Boards’ jurisdiction is: Orange County Board of Supervisors 1st
District. Pursuant to County of Orange
Charter Section 103(c), due to the 1st District
office being vacant as of October 22, 2024, the vacancy shall be filled by the
person receiving the highest number of votes cast for Supervisor in that
district after the Board declares the results of the November general election.
Candidates for federal, state and other
local offices are declared elected by their respective governing bodies.
