RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
Authorize OC Public Libraries to accept a donation in the amount of $30,000 from the San Clemente Friends of the Library to offset purchasing a laptop vending machine for the San Clemente Branch Library.
SUMMARY:
Authorization to accept the donation from the San Clemente Friends of the Library in the amount of $30,000 will offset the cost of purchasing a laptop vending machine for the San Clemente Branch Library.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The San Clemente Friends of the Library operates a bookstore, holds fundraisers and solicits donations to provide funding, reading material and program support to the San Clemente Branch Library. Accepting the donation in the amount of $30,000 from the San Clemente Friends of the Library will offset the cost of purchasing a laptop vending machine to be used by patrons of the San Clemente Library. The vending machine will allow patrons to self-checkout laptops with their library card. The laptops will be available for use within the branch and will facilitate patrons' access to information. Currently, two branches in the OC Public Libraries system have laptop vending machines and another five are budgeted for FY 2019-20. These vending machines are very popular with patrons and help the library fulfill the mission of providing patrons access to information and removing barriers to services.
On July 15, 2014, the Board of Supervisors authorized OC Public Libraries to accept a donation from the San Clemente Friends of the Library to offset the costs of expanding and remodeling the San Clemente Branch Library. The project was managed by OC Community Resources staff and completed in 2015.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Revenue from this donation will be absorbed in the FY 2019-20 OC Public Library Fund 120 Budget.
