Sponsorship of Rossmoor Homeowners Association Neighborhood Watch Signs

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

1.

Find under Government Code section 26227 that sponsorship of the Rossmoor Homeowners Association's Neighborhood Watch signs will serve a public purpose of the County of Orange and will meet the social needs of the population of the County, including but not limited to, the areas of health, law enforcement, public safety, rehabilitation, welfare, education and legal services, and the needs of physically, mentally and financially handicapped persons and aged persons.

2.

Authorize the use of County Events funds for sponsorship of the Rossmoor Homeowners Association's Neighborhood Watch signs. the that County staff and resources may be used in furtherance of such events; and that County staff may solicit donations of funds and services for such events.

SUMMARY/BACKGROUND:

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association has invested heavily in their Neighborhood Watch project and obtained all necessary permits, but did not anticipate the cost of Neighborhood Watch signage, quoted at $1,875. The Rossmoor Homeowners Association approached the Second District Supervisor's office with a request for support of this program in the form of a $1,500 sponsorship for the signs. Neighborhood Watches regularly use prominently posted signage to increase awareness of the program's presence in the community and to increase the possibility that the program will deter would-be criminals.
