RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
Approve combined follow-up responses to various 2016-17 Grand Jury Reports and direct the County Executive Officer to provide the follow-up responses to the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court.
SUMMARY:
Approving the combined follow-up responses to the 2016-17 Grand Jury Reports will fulfill the Board's goal of responding to the Grand Jury's request for additional information.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
As a result of the discussions with the 2015-16 Grand Jury and in complying with the Board of Supervisor's approved response on July 12, 2016, to the Grand Jury Report, "To Be Continued...Follow-Up for Open Formal Grand Jury Report Responses", issued on May 3, 2016, the County Executive Office has worked with departments to prepare Attachment A, which includes follow-up responses to any outstanding items from the 2016-17 Grand Jury reports.
In the past, the County Executive Office had brought a similar report for Board of Supervisors consideration every March but discontinued this practice as a result of direction from the prior Grand Jury. In its discussion with the 2015-16 Grand Jury, the County Executive Office concurred that restoring the regular update to the Board every March will serve to help close out any open items and provide a consolidated status update from the prior year's Grand Jury reports. This action was memorialized in the aforementioned 2015-16 Grand Jury Report and an annual update has been added to the internal County policy documents and training materials for Grand Jury Report responses. Since then, there have been two follow-up responses submitted to the Grand Jury:
