RECOMMENDED ACTION(S)

Approve and authorize the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors to execute the Fourth Amendment to the Agreement between the County of Orange and Trauma Intervention Program Incorporated for supportive and practical services to victims of traumatic events and their families, extending the term of the Agreement one year (3/12/06 through 3/11/07) in an amount not to exceed $30,000.

SUMMARY:

The Sheriff-Coroner requests approval of the Fourth Amendment to the Agreement with Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc. for provision of support services to victims of traumatic events and their families, extending the term of the Agreement until March 11, 2007.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The agreement with Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc. (TIP)  provides comprehensive crisis intervention services in the unincorporated areas plus County parks and harbors, including on-scene support and practical assistance to victims of traumatic events and their family members, providing on-scene support to clients, making telephone calls and notifying family, and providing information and referral services.

In addition, TIP also provides immediate crisis response services at John Wayne Airport, including immediate crisis intervention services to travelers and airport employees who have experienced a crisis event at the airport; accompaniment of travelers who have experienced a medical emergency from the airport to local hospitals to provide support and to act as liaison between the traveler and out-of-town family members; meeting and providing support to family members arriving at or departing from the airport after being notified of the injury or death of a loved one; and critical incident response at the airport to assist survivors and family members after an air crash.

The proposed Fourth Amendment to the Agreement would extend the agreement with TIP until March 11, 2007, in the same annual amount ($30,000).
