RECOMMENDED ACTION(S)
1. Accept the Comprehensive Drug Court Implementation Grant extension with the State
Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs in the amount of $134,707 for FY 2005-06.
2. Authorize the Health Care Agency Director, or designee, on behalf of the Board of
Supervisors, to execute the grant.
SUMMARY:
The Health Care Agency requests approval to accept the extended funding of the Dependency Drug Court, which comes through the Comprehensive Drug Court Implementation Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On April 26, 2005, your Honorable Board authorized the Health Care Agency (HCA) to execute a Dependency Drug Court (DDC) grant award in the amount of $269,414. This funding came through the State Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs (ADP) Comprehensive Drug Court Implementation (CDCI) Program, which has been funding the County's drug courts for over five years.
Recently, HCA received notification that the State is now extending DDC funding for an additional six months from December 28, 2005 through June 30, 2006 in the amount of $134,707. This funding will enable HCA to continue to provide substance abuse treatment for individuals seeking to regain custody of their children. The DDC, which was developed through a collaborative effort with the Juvenile Justice Center, Social Services Agency, County Counsel and the Public Defender's Office, was implemented on April 1, 2005.
The anticipated outcomes for the DDC will be increased timely reunification of children and parents, reduction in the number of out-of-home child placements and increased treatment program participation and early treatment enrollment for parents who are involved with Dependency proceedings.
The Health Care Agency requests that your Board authorize the Health Care Agency Director, or designee, to execute the grant award from the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs as referenced in the Recommended Action.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Appropriations and revenue related to this request will be absorbed within the Health Care Agency’s FY 2005-06 Current Budget.
