Authorize the Purchasing Agent to purchase one Extended Range CNG Service truck from Lake Chevrolet in the amount of $101,876.55. |
SUMMARY:
Resources and Development Management Department requests authorization for the Purchasing Agent to award a purchase order for the purchase of one extended range CNG service truck.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The adopted FY 2005/06 budget includes the purchase of one extended range CNG service truck for use by Resources and Development Management Department/Operations & Maintenance for dispensing compressed natural gas (CNG) to other vehicles in the field. Large pieces of equipment and vehicles using CNG fuel are often in use during storms or other emergencies, and may be far from a CNG fueling station. By providing fuel in the field this will keep equipment in use and avoid lengthy trips for refueling. This unit will also be used to assist in operations such as traffic control, follow vehicle and personnel transport. The requested truck is required to meet the demands of the AQMD alternative fuel compliance and yet maintain efficient use of large equipment in the field.
Bids were solicited via the Internet and from five (5) firms directly. Four bids were received of which one was a no bid. The responsive bids are as follows:

|
SOPP Chevrolet |
$148,695.00 |
|

|
RDMD/Operations and Maintenance has verified that the extended range service truck being offered by Lake Chevrolet meets all County specifications and standards for the requested equipment.
The low bid exceeds the budgeted amount by $1,876.55. Additional funds are available to cover this expense in the Equipment Account from cost savings of previously purchased equipment. This equipment was budgeted in Flood Fund 400 for fiscal year 2005/2006 in the amount of $100,000.
