RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):

Accept the one-time donation of a Mobile Pistol Range valued at approximately $975,000 from the Orange County Sheriff's Advisory Council.

SUMMARY:

Acceptance of the donation of one Mobile Pistol Range will allow the Sheriff-Coroner Department to replace its current Mobile Pistol Range which is reaching its useful life cycle.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Orange County Sheriff's Advisory Council (OCSAC) was formed in 1979 as a 501(c)3 California non-profit corporation for the purpose of supporting local law enforcement. The mission of the OCSAC is to "support the law enforcement community of Orange County when the necessary funds needed to support their missions are restricted or limited."

The Sheriff-Coroner Department (Sheriff) has identified a need to replace its Mobile Pistol Range (MPR) which is at the end of its useful life cycle. Currently, the Sheriff has one functioning MPR tasked with meeting the primary duty handgun qualification requirements for approximately 2,000 armed sworn staff members throughout various Sheriff Divisions. This donated MPR will have a positive impact. Armed sworn staff members will minimize their drive time to the Katella Training Center by being able to qualify in one of the South Sub Stations.

Currently, armed sworn staff members qualify based on their rank either bi-annually, quarterly or monthly.

Sheriff now requests that the Board of Supervisors accept the donation of one Mobile Pistol Range from the OCSAC, as noted in the Recommended Action.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Accept the one-time donation of one Mobile Pistol Range with an estimated value not to exceed of $975,000.
