SUMMARY:
Sheriff-Coroner requests approval of a Service Agreement with Capistrano Unified School District to allow the parking of two Sheriff's DUI Enforcement trailers on District property.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Sheriff's South Operations Division has two DUI Enforcement trailers, which are used primarily for sobriety checkpoints in all contract cities in South County. One of the trailers is larger and it can also be used as a command post during emergencies. The smaller trailer carries cones and road signs and can be used for emergency road closures. Because there is no room to park the trailers at the Aliso Viejo Station, the trailers are currently stored on an unpaved lot at the James A. Musick Facility in Irvine, approximately 10 miles away.
Capistrano Unified School District has a facility located at 2 Liberty, Aliso Viejo, which includes a paved parking lot with unused space. This location is approximately one mile from the Aliso Viejo Station and is more centrally located in South County. The District has agreed to allow the Sheriff's Department to park the trailers on their property at 2 Liberty at no cost to the County. The District is requiring that the County execute the proposed Service Agreement in order for the Sheriff's Department to use the facility.
